  Proposed Veterans Memorial

The Argyle American Legion Post 251 and the Village of Argyle worked together to create Argyle's Legion Park. Through the years the Argyle Village Board and community organizations combined their efforts to create one of the most beautiful and functional parks in the area. It is enjoyed by hundreds if not thousands of people each year. With this in mind the Argyle Legion Post recently asked for, and was granted permission, to construct a veteran’s memorial in the park. The memorial will consist of several granite stones engraved with the names of area veterans who proudly served their country from the distant past to the conflicts of today. Lighted walkways, benches, landscaping, and decorative plantings will help to enhance the memorial. It is the Legion's hope to create a place where family and friends can come to quietly reflect on pride of family, community and country.

This project will not be inexpensive. Although the Legion plans to do much of the physical labor and related work, the total cost will be quite high. It is estimated that the total project cost will be approximately $40,000.00 - $50,000.00. Our post has used much of its savings for the initial cost of the stones but we will need the community's support to reach our goal. Fundraisers are planned and will help us toward our goal, but your generous donations will be the only way we can accomplish this very worthwhile plan. We will soon have drawings of the project on display in the community and in area newspapers.

We want to make absolutely certain that we have included all local veteran's names and that those names are spelled correctly. We ask that all local veterans or their families check the list for accuracy. The lists are available at the Argyle Post Office, Amcore Bank, Woodford State Bank, Argyle Village Clerk's office and here on this website.

Just as our local veterans have responded in times of need we ask for your support in this very important project.

Thank you from the members of Argyle American Legion Post 251.
