A picturesque village nestled into the rolling hills of northeastern Lafayette County, the community of Argyle and the surrounding area are appealing both to residents and to visitors. The eastern branch of the Pecatonica River weaves its way through the village, offering fishing and boating opportunities to those who love the outdoors. Just eight miles to the northwest is Yellowstone Lake State Park. The 450-acre Yellowstone Lake is the largest body of water in southwestern Wisconsin.
Community ProfileThe people of Argyle are an essential component in the community's appeal. They are friendly, open and deeply committed to their community. Many volunteer their time in community organizations, local churches and with the local fire department and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) program. Although just over 800 in population, Argyle offers a wide variety of products and services to residents and visitors. The village has two restaurants, a supper club, a supermarket, a Laundromat, two banks, a 24 hour gas station with convenience store, and the basic medical services of a physician, dentist and veterinarian. There are also several retail businesses including a lumber yard, hardware store, a jewelry / gift store, an arts and collectibles shop, two local pubs, and two beauty shops. Argyle is within an easy drive of Monroe, a city of 10,000 people located 15 miles east of Argyle. The largest city in the region is Madison, 40 miles to the northeast. State capital of Wisconsin and home of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, this community of nearly 200,000 has a multitude of educational, medical, recreational, and cultural resources.
